Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why has Cornell University Library partnered with Amazon.com?
Cornell University Library (CUL) curates and manages a large and diverse portfolio of digital texts and images. Many of the text items in our collections are in the public domain. It is these out-of-copyright works we have now made available for purchase as bound books on Amazon.com.
While our digital collections are available to the world on an open access basis, we realize than many browsers would also like to own a printed and bound version of the monographs we have digitized. We have partnered with BookSurge, a print-on-demand service provider and an Amazon subsidiary, to provide professionally produced paperbound versions of these titles.
Each CUL title you order from Amazon is printed at the point of sale and shipped directly from BookSurge's fulfillment facility directly to the customer, usually within 48 hours of receipt of your order.
Are these publications affiliated with Cornell University Press?
Cornell University Library and the Cornell University Press are separate operating units of Cornell University. The Cornell University Press does offer its titles for sale via Amazon, but these books are not duplicated in the Library's digital collections. Please visit the Cornell University Press's online catalog for more information about their publishing programs and a complete list of their titles.
I will be ordering one of your titles for a course; can I order a desk copy?
Because the CUL titles available via Amazon are printed only when an order is placed, i.e. printed on demand, we cannot fulfill desk copy requests. As an academic library we are sensitive to pricing thresholds and budget constraints and we have made an effort to price our titles attractively for both instructors and students. The full text of all titles is accessible online for browsing and review. Please check the appropriate digital collection site for the specific title.
Can I place an order directly through Cornell University Library?
No. All orders must be placed directly with Amazon. Books are printed and bound when ordered. CUL holds no inventory of titles on site.
Amazon listing indicates "2 used & new" available, but I'd like to order more than 2 copies of a title.
CUL titles available on Amazon are printed only when an order is placed. You may order any amount by entering the desired number of copies in the quantity field of shopping cart.
